FREQUENT QUESTIONS
Citizenship by investment (CBI) is a legal route in which a qualifying investment or contribution forms part of an application for citizenship. Residence by investment (RBI) leads to a residence status linked to a qualifying investment. The permit’s duration, renewal conditions and rights depend on the jurisdiction, and a later nationality application is a separate process.
Announced, not yet open. On 2 October 2026 the Government announced that the Citizenship by Investment Program will receive applications during the fourth quarter of 2026, with APCI leading the assessment and the National Migration Agency deciding. Until the implementing rules, the official filing channel and payment accounts are published, no funds should be transferred.
The official communiqué sets two routes: a non-refundable US$350,000 contribution to the National Treasury or the subscription of a dedicated US$800,000 government bond, plus contributions for a spouse and children. They are not equivalent: the contribution is not recoverable, while the bond locks up capital under Argentine sovereign risk.
Not by itself. Article 194 of Law 27,802 amended Article 116 of the Income Tax Law: naturalisation through relevant investment does not, on its own, make the person an Argentine tax resident. The foreign-national residence rules continue to apply.
CBI.Lawyer is an independent legal platform associated with Falivene & Asociados in Buenos Aires, directed by Dr. Aníbal Falivene (CPACF Vol. 71, Folio 132). It is not a government website and does not claim to be a licensed program agent in every jurisdiction.
